Born April 24, 1920
Died September 9, 2016
Our beloved father went to be with his Savior on September 9th. We rejoice in the knowledge that he is in heaven and we will see him again.
Russell was a long time resident of Chino, CA. He served his country in the Army Air Force, having served as a staff Sargent in World War II. While in the service he earned a pilot's license and worked as an airplane mechanic.
Upon exiting military service, Russell worked for many years as an architect draftsman with Foster Rhodes Jackson, and as a maintenance foreman for the Chino Unified School District.
Russell married Grace Campos on November 3, 1951. Together they lovingly raised five daughters and two sons. Russell was a father figure mentor to many people in Chino and the surrounding communities. He was a dedicated Boy Scout leader, taking several boys from Cubs through Eagle Scout. During his 33 year involvement, he received the Broken Arrow Award, the Bronze Pelican Award and the Silver Beaver Award.
A devout Catholic, Russell served as a Eucharistic Minister for Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. He used his talents to design and build the church altar which still stands today. He also traveled to Mexico to bless churches there with his gifts of carpentry and architecture.
Russell is predeceased by his parents, many siblings and many beloved family members.
He leaves behind his most cherished wife of 64 years, Grace, 5 daughters; Bridget (Dan) Burns, Theresa Padilla, Laura (Mike) Cromer, Karen (Bill) Widrick, Camille (Todd) Halliwill, 2 sons; Russell Jr. (Geri) and Dominic. He also leaves behind his dear brother Henry (Jenny) Padilla, along with 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and many well loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Russell lived a joy filled life. He enjoyed dancing, gardening, deep sea fishing and was a golden globes boxer. He always wore that famous Padilla smile as he told his many stories.
The family of Russell Padilla would like to thank the caring hospice workers who eased our way at this most difficult time and the many wonderful friends and relatives who helped us walk this difficult road.
Arrangements under the direction of Funeraria del angel Pierce Brothers Griffith, Chino, CA.
