She was a Madera County resident her entire life, living in Chowchilla for the last 60 years.
Maybelle was the oldest child of Rasmeo and Pearl (Pistoresi) Mariscotti. She grew up in Berenda where she attended the original Berenda School, graduating in 1932. She attended Madera High School and graduated with the class of 1936.
Maybelle went on to beauty college in Fresno and around 1940 opened up a beauty shop with her sister, Ethalae in Chowchilla, across from the Bank of America on Robertson Blvd.
On November 8, 1941, Maybelle married Charles “Tex” Red in St. Columba Catholic Church. After WWII, Charles and Maybelle opened their general merchandise store in Ahwahnee. Their son, Daniel was born in 1948 with Michael to follow in 1950 and Nancy in 1953.
Maybelle and Charles owned and operated Red’s Market at 701 Robertson Blvd. (now Faith Hall) from 1949 until retiring in 1985.
Maybelle was truly a blessed woman as she was deeply loved by her family and dear friends, which she in turn blessed each one she touched. Music and the piano was her God given talent of which she shared up until the week of her illness. The Birthday Song was a special gift she gave that was more precious than gold. Her daily scripture reading started the day and the Lord’s Prayer was her bedtime devotion. She will be forever remembered as a beautiful woman of God. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, Nannan, sister, aunt, adopted mother and friend.
