R. C. Baker, age 92, of Chowchilla, California passed away on February 5, 2024. R.C. was born in Cosby, Missouri on August 18, 1931 to Robert and Dalure Baker. He spent his younger years farming cotton in Arkansas with his parents and three older siblings (Vanteen, Max and Hazel), all who have predeceased him.
In 1953, R.C. married Vonda (nee Adams) while living in St. Louis, Missouri and they remained married until her death in 2006.
R.C. served in the United States Navy and was an “Atomic Veteran” who participated in the 1956 Operation Redwing nuclear weapons testing in the Marshall Islands.
After being discharged from the Navy, R.C. spent the next 50 years working as a skilled cement mason in St. Louis, Missouri and as a business owner in concrete construction and heavy equipment excavation (operating engineer) in Fremont, California.
R.C. is survived by his three sons, Randy, Ricky, and Billy; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Services for Mr. Baker will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Chowchilla District Cemetery, 22359 Road 14 1/2, Chowchilla, CA 93610.
