Roger L Connell

Roger L. Connell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on October 20, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on November 11, 1934, to Brice and Edith (Deyo) Connell, Roger spent his life in Circleville, Ohio.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers-in-law Robynell and Carl Curl and Kathleen and Donald Kolodgy, nephew Richard Kolodgy, niece Linda Kolodgy, sisters-in-law Betty Connell and Sandra Smith, and significant other Paula Edwards.

Roger is survived by his cherished daughters Rhonda Gessells, Rebecca (Steve) Nissen, and Robyn Connell and wife of 50 years, Joyce Connell. He was a proud grandfather to Kyle (Diana) Gessells, Kristin (Tyler) Burdette, Connor Gessells, Joey (Mistie) Parker, Mitchell Raterman, Mason Nissen, Josie Raterman, and Ava Nissen, and a great-grandfather to Hailey, Mason, Noah, Landon, Lucas, Emma, Calvin, and Nessa. He also leaves behind his brother, Emerson Connell, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Roger grew up in Derby, OH with his three siblings and graduated from Darby High School in 1952. He began working at the Ohio Department of Taxation after high school and served in the Ohio National Guard for several years. He retired from the Dept. of Taxation after 36 years, at which time he started his own property tax consulting business until he was 78 years old.

Roger loved the simple pleasures in life, especially when it came to family and friendships. He enjoyed dining out, and treasured his weekly luncheons with his brother. Roger enjoyed travel, particularly trips to Myrtle Beach, where he created lasting memories with Joyce and his daughters and later, his grandchildren and extended family. Roger cherished his friendships, particularly with Jack, JB, Ted & Kenny. His love and spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Alisa Reed and Marian Wertman for their compassionate care of Roger.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on October 29, 2024, at Defenbaugh-Wise Schoedinger Funeral Home, 151 E Main St, Circleville, OH 43113, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will take place following the services at Rhoadhouse 56, 1051 State Route 56 East, Circleville, OH.
