

Dewey was born April 25, 1924, at Louisville, IL to David Christian and Jessie Mae (Daugherty) Porter. He married Vera Mae (McHenry) Porter March 4, 1949 at the First Christian Church in Flora, IL.
Dewey was a farmer, carpenter, oilfield worker, and custodian at Clay City High School. He was a WWII Veteran serving in Italy. Dewey was a member of VFW and American Legion in Flora, IL and a lifelong member of Red Brush Christian Church at Louisville, IL.
Dewey is survived by two daughters Barbara (Brice) Reaves of Elkville, IL and Karen Lee of St. Elmo, IL; two sons Rick (Jean) Porter of Flora, IL and Tyler Porter (Judy Nguyen) of Antioch, CA. Also surviving is one sister Edna Sefton of Flora, IL and three sisters-in-law Bernita Porter and Beverly Gibson both of Louisville, IL and Queena McHenry and step-mother-in-law Martha McHenry of Flora, IL. Six grandchildren Staci (Todd) Countryman of Flora, IL; Brian (Tiffany) Reaves of Park Hills, MO; Mindy (Tim) McDermott of Waterloo, IL; Emily (Jeff Flores) Porter of Escondido, CA; Eric (Rachel) Porter of Johnsonville, IL and Joey Lee of Farina, IL; seventeen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceding him in death were his wife Vera Porter, parents David and Jessie Porter, son Roger Neal Porter, brothers Jason (Georgia) Porter, Herschel (Katheryn) Porter and Henry Porter, and a sister Caroline (Jim) Canny and an infant brother Woodrow.
Funeral service for Dewey Porter will be 2:00PM Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at Red Brush Christian Church at Louisville, IL. Burial will be in Red Brush Cemetery. There will be military honors at the graveside. Visitation will be from noon to time of service at the church on Monday.
Memorials may be given to Clay County Health Department and will be accepted at the church on Monday or may be sent to Hosselton Funeral Home at Cisne, IL
