

Betty was born on August 7th, 1952 in Charleston, SC to Robert Jenkins and Rovenner Kennedy. She was raised in Charleston and lived many years in the area, before eventually moving and settling down in Clayton, North Carolina.
Betty lived a selfless life; always putting others’ needs before her own. She was a woman of faith, who strongly believed in the power of prayer. She was grateful for the blessings life bestowed upon her, and was always willing to listen and be a shoulder for others to lean on. She would often say her greatest gift was her family. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband and best friend of 47 years, Wilbert Simmons, Jr., and their children, Floyd Monard Coaxum of Elmira, NY, Maria Antoinette Coaxum of Garner, NC, Danieal Latrice Jenkins of Clayton, NC, and Antwione Terry McKinney of Napa, CA. She is also survived by her mother, Rovenner Kennedy of Summerville, SC, and 2 brothers: Gilbert Jenkins of Austin, TX, and Robert Jenkins of San Francisco, CA. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Shaniqua, Sierra, Carmen, Brandi, Rebecca, Guiliana, and Anias, as well as 5 great-grandchildren: A’vani, Zion, Leah, Darwin Jr. and Donovan. She leaves a number of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, all of whom will miss her deeply.
A viewing to celebrate Betty's life will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 1:00PM - 3:00PM at McLaurin Funeral Home, 12830 US 70 Business Highway W, Clayton, NC 27520.
