Bonnie Parker Johnson passed away peacefully at home Monday afternoon with her family by her side. Bonnie had the ability to make us smile and enjoy life even during her difficult times battling cancer. She is now healed and rejoicing with her Savior and Lord.
Bonnie was born in Coats, Harnett County, to Troy Erkwood and Theraldine Parker. She graduated from Benson High School in June 1965 and married her high school sweetheart, Billy Johnson, on June 27, 1965. Bonnie worked with the North Carolina Department of Revenue until becoming a mother in 1968. Once her children were securely established in school, she began a career at Clayton High School where she served in Front Office administration at Clayton High from 1979 until her retirement in 2004. Bonnie will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, which greeted students, staff, and visitors each day.
Bonnie grew up attending Stevens Chapel Baptist Church in Benson. Once married, she faithfully served alongside her husband for 60 years in various ministerial positions within the Church of God denomination. Her impact on the lives of those around her leaves an eternal legacy. Through her prayers and example, she touched countless lives. A devoted prayer warrior, she served others with the heart of Jesus, and we now celebrate her life eternal.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Billy G. Johnson. She is also survived by a son, Troy Johnson (Amy) and a daughter, Pam Taylor (Kenneth), her four grandchildren Zachary Lyons, Kara Morales (CJ), Joelle Johnson and Caleb Johnson, as well as two great-grandchildren, Caden Morales and Kylah Morales. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters Bobbie Barbour, Brenda Brown; her brother Billy Parker and two special "Sisters"-in law, Janet Parker and Donna Southern (Randy). She is preceded in death by her parents, Theraldine Penny Parker and Troy Erkwood Parker; her brother, Jimmy Parker and little sister, Vicky Hawley; her brothers-in-law, Preston Barbour, Bobby Johnson, Buddy Brown and Kenny Hawley; her sisters-in-law, Sandra Parker and Janet Barbour; her nephew, Michael Parker; her nieces, Marilyn Phillips and Kathy Denning.
The family is eternally grateful for James McCann, PA-C (Garner Internal Medicine), Brendan McNulty, MD and BJ Hernandez, R.N. and hospice care of 3HC staff (Jessica and Breanna) for their care and love.
A funeral service celebrating Bonnie's life will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, January 3rd at the West Clayton Church of God. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11:00am until 12:00 pm. The interment will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Clayton.
Because of Bonnie's serving heart for her beloved community of Clayton and for suffering people all around the world, it was her heartfelt request that in lieu of flowers, contributions would be made to The Friends of the Library, Inc. (P.O. Box 854 Clayton, NC 27528 or www.clayton-fol.square.site) or Samaritan's Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org).
