Mike was a soul one would always remember.  I was fortunate enough to work with him for some time when he served NC public health.  He served selflessly, in one memory, volunteering to stay to protect the health of the public at a world event in NC while his coworkers were summoned back to the state Capitol to respond to hurricane Florence.  He was away from his family to ensure the world event did not impact the health of North Carolinians.  I will miss his spirit and his friendship.  He was truly an example for others to follow.

Mike was an amazing person. Mike dedicated his like to public service from his time working with me in the State EOC during activations in the Human Services Breakout room to having chats about EMS and our daily lives. He was a man that loved his family and would always mention them in conversations. I worked with you for 2.5 years and those moments I will remember for a lifetime. As a fellow eagle scout and friend it has been an honor to work and know you. Until we meet in the next life my friend.

In an era where it feels like there is so much negativity in the world, Mike was a beacon of positivity and light.  A warm smiling face, an amazing friend, and a knowledgeable colleague who would go out of his way to help anyone.  Mike always seemed to know just what to say to make you laugh and was full of stories to tell from his many life experiences that made him so relatable.  A great person, husband, father, colleague, and friend stolen from this world far too soon.    Many thoughts and prayers to the Prevatte  Family.

Mike was the most pleasant person. Intelligent, kind, and talented. Always game for rides on his MTB or sending some rounds down range, or chatting up friends and co-workers. Always ready to help those around him, and such an amazing dad and husband. Mike will be missed so dearly by so many. RIP brother

I, along with so many others, had the opportunity to work with Mike at the State EOC during activations.  Mike's workstation within the Human Services Branch breakout room was the first desk as you entered from the Situation room.  As mentioned by others, Mike had a way to quickly become your friend as he was very friendly, outgoing and personal--Mike was the best person to have seated at the entrance of our breakout room as he greeted, assisted, and encouraged everyone that entered and exited our breakout room.  We worked many exercises and activations. Mike's knowledge and skillset contributed greatly to the successes we had during activations.  Most importantly, during down time we had time to talk about our families and our time away from work.  Mike loved his family.  These conversations are the ones that we will miss but are truly thankful we had the opportunity for them.
NCEM's Human Services Branch will miss Mike as he was a valued member and friend of our Emergency Services family.

Mike was a wonderful person. He always had such a great attitude, smile and warmth to contribute to every situation.  He will be greatly missed by everyone who ever worked with him or knew him. May he rest in peace with our Lord.

Mike was not only a coworker but also a great friend who is already greatly missed. We spent many long days/weeks at the State EOC during disaster responses and exercises and got to know each other quite well.  I will miss our conversations and vent sessions. He was one of those people that seemed to know everyone and if he didn't, give him about 5 minutes and he would.  I can not list the number of people who dropped by the Human Services room looking for Mike and if he was not there, the disappointment on their faces. You could hear the pride and love in his voice whenever he talked about his family and their latest adventure or hobby. So many prayers and hugs being sent.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Mike's passing. I first met him a few years ago when he volunteered to help EP administer safety training in the Learning Management System. He was a quick study on a sometimes quirky system, and I enjoyed working with him on this project.  It was also a pleasure to have him serve on the NCDA&CS Employee Recognition Committee. He always took that responsibility seriously, and even when he could not attend selection meetings, he faithfully submitted his votes ahead of time, often strongly advocating for worthy nominees. Mike was always smiling, and his warmth and positivity brightened every room he entered.

There are people who leave a mark on a workplace, and then there are people who shape its heart. He shaped ours. He was a constant presence in our safety culture, not because he had to be, but because he believed in it. He volunteered before anyone asked, stepped up before anyone realized help was needed, and quietly made sure things got done. His dedication was steady, humble, and deeply felt by everyone around him.

What I’ll hold closest are the conversations that drifted beyond work.  The ones where his whole face lit up talking about taking his family skiing. He was so proud of the three of them on the slopes together, carving out those moments of joy and adventure. You could hear the happiness in his voice every time he talked about it.

Losing him is heartbreaking, but the way he lived, with generosity, commitment, and love for his family, is something I’ll always remember. His impact on our team, and on me personally, will stay with me for a long time.

​I am absolutely heartbroken to hear about Mike’s passing. He was such a bright light wherever he went and a truly wonderful person and friend. My heart goes out to the family during this unimaginably difficult time.

My heart aches for you all as you navigate this unimaginable loss. I had the privilege to work with Mike at NCDA&CS. Mike was guided by a deep sense of duty and dedication serving North Carolina. Mike brought more than skills to our team, he brought heart. The impact that Mike made will continue to guide us in the way we serve and support one another.  Mike was devoted to his family and always smiling with love and pride. May the beautiful memories you shared become your source of healing and strength.

I am so saddened to hear of Mike’s passing. We worked together for years. He didn’t know it but when things got crazy working a disaster, sometimes you look for a friendly face, and several times, he was that person for me. I will miss jive talking about old fire and EMS stories. A great man, a wonderful public servant, and just a good human. Thank you Mike for all you did for North Carolina.

Mike was my friend and peer at work. He had a great spirit.  He was funny, sincere, and trustworthy. He will be missed.  RIP

Mike was my division chief at Cary EMS. I always enjoyed working for him and learn so much about how to be a medic from him. He was incredibly passionate in his work. We're all going to miss you!

Mike was a great friend and coworker. He taught me to drive a trailer and was always ready with a joke or a funny story. He gave more than he took and had such a positive impact on the community. He clearly valued his family. They seemed so close and were always going somewhere and doing something fun together. He will be missed so much. My prayers are with his family.

I worked With Mike for many years as a Cary Firefighter. He was truly a joy to be around. I am truly going to miss him.  Rest in peace my friend.
