David Lee Straiko

Born April 7, 1946, in Barberton Ohio, David was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Emil Straiko who both passed away in 1999. His sister Emaline also preceded him in death.

David is survived by his wife, Marguerite (Margie), daughter, Dr. Amy Howerton, and her husband Dr. Shawn Howerton, son Dr. Michael Straiko, and Megan Straiko Ph.D. David leaves behind grandchildren, Phoebe and Logan Howerton, and Caroline and Julia Straiko. Also stepsons Tyler and Brewster Wilson, their wives Olga and Lindsey, respectfully, along with their children Raylee, Hudson, Amelia, and Julia. Brother-in-law William Dassel and friend Sandi Lax will also miss David including David’s sister and brother-in-law, Donald and Kerry Snyder.

David was a 1964 graduate of Barberton High School. In 1968 David graduated from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio with a degree in psychology. After working for Bridgestone and Reliance Electric companies in the Akron, Ohio area, David was employed by Mettler-Toledo in Columbus, Ohio as a human resources manager until he retired in 2011.

David and his wife have been living in Garner, North Carolina since 2009. He has enjoyed playing golf, traveling with Margie, and volunteering with Plant-a-Row for the Hungry in Smithfield.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. at McLaurin Funeral Home at 12830 US 70 Business Hwy W, Clayton, NC -- Tuesday, June 6, 2023, followed by a celebration of Dave’s life service from 4-5 p.m. Cremation will follow with interment to Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to either the Triangle Aphasia Project in Cary, NC who helped David in his journey with aphasia, or Transitions Life Care in Raleigh who provided loving hospice care until he passed.
