She lived a long life and would be the first to tell you she was truly blessed. Her grateful attitude and positive encouragement was appreciated by many. She was a hard working independent lady who didn’t retire until she was eighty and still drove at eighty six. For the last twenty years she lived in a neighborhood where they were a true community, looking after each other. Friends were always stopping by to visit. She was loved and an inspiration to all.
She was born into a large family of eleven to Fletcher and Nora Norris on July 29, 1933 and was preceded in death by all but one brother, Larry. She is also preceded by husband, George McLelland Jr.
She is survived by her family Susan and Greg Henson, Emily and Gregg Mangum, granddaughters Lori, Angela, and Hannah, as well as great grandchildren Sailor, Ezra, Kensleigh and Layla. Also surviving are a multitude of nieces and nephews. Her family was her life.
A memorial gathering will be held in the future but for now we would like to encourage you to take the time to be of service to others.
● Visit someone you love, especially the elderly. All they want is your time. Offer to take out the trash or mow the lawn.
● Call or email friends and loved ones. Dot sent a daily email of encouragement to her family. She wanted us to know that we were loved everyday.
● Care for a caregiver. If you know someone who is taking care of others, remind them that they are appreciated. Offer to help. Little things matter.
● Prepare a meal and share with friends or take someone special to Krispy Kreme while the “Hot” sign is on.
● Send a card to someone who needs encouragement and remind them they are loved.
● Smile and be kind to others. Hug as much as you can.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mclaurinatpinecrest.com for the McLelland family.
