

Doug Prince October 24, 1949 - May 15, 2015 Clayton, North Carolina: Douglas Scott Prince, age 65, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. He was born in Irvington, NJ to the late Franklin Prince and Annamae Price Prince and grew up in Kenilworth, NJ. He lived in Hopatcong, NJ for 16 years and Sunrise, FL for 11 years before moving to Clayton, NC. He was retired from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (US DOL - OSHA) as a Safety and Occupational Specialist (1990 thru 2010) and participated with NIOSH in the development of “Preventing Vehicle and Equipment-Related Occupational Injuries in Highway and Street Construction Work Zones”. Doug received the Vice President’s Hammer Award for work done on the New Jersey Highway Work Zone Project in 1998. He worked for the City of Raleigh, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources, Compliance and Staff Development as a Safety Instructor and Safety Inspector (part time - 2010 thru present). He was a Volunteer Fireman with the Beachwood No. 1 Volunteer Fire Department in Beachwood, NJ and Hopatcong Hills Company 4 Firehouse in Hopatcong, NJ. For anyone who knew Doug, he was a “tell it like it is” kind of guy and would give you the shirt off his back. He was a Parrothead to the core and left a huge a smile on everyone he came across. Doug had a love of planting and gardening and volunteering in rescuing dogs. He took great pleasure in playing Santa for both the joy of children and animals alike. He enjoyed supporting his grandson, Jonathan’s, music throughout his schooling and being a part of a Bowling League with Jonathan. He found great pleasure watching his grandkids, Logan’s and Justin’s, soccer, basketball and baseball games, as well as spending time with his entire family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy M. Prince; two daughters, Heather A. Conger (married to Scott F. Conger) living in Netcong, NJ and Victoria Somol (married to John Somol) living in Clayton, NC; three grandchildren, Jonathan D. Prince (married to Lauren L. Prince), Logan Somol and Justin Somol; and brother, Franklin Prince, Jr. (married to Tina Prince) living in Kenilworth, NJ. The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, May 20, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton with a Prayer Service to follow beginning at 8:30 PM, officiated by Pastor Bill Beyer.
