     I have know Doug since 1960. Our families bought houses on the same street in Kenilworth, NJ.  We were friends growing up together.  
     As we grew older and were married with children, our lives became entangled. Our families shared and enjoyed special times together. 
     Doug has always been a faithful,loyal,and true friend over the last 55 years. We will certainly miss Doug, but the memories of him will live on in our hearts.
     With our deepest and sincere condolences to Dottie, Heather and Scott, Vickie and John, his wonderful grandchildren, Jonathan, Logan and Justin, and his brother Franklin and wife Tina.

Doug, What the heck?  You were supposed to enjoy "retirement" a lot longer than this!  I'll miss the constant parade of e-mails from the South.  Most of all, I'll be sad that you're gone. Dot, kids, and the rest of Doug's family, you guys know he's where we all hope to go someday.  We'll meet up with him then.  Meanwhile, Doug, I'll remember you in my prayers.

Doug,  You are such a trouble maker even when you leave this world - always in a hurry to get to the next place in your life.  You wanted to go to NC to relax and enjoy your retirement, family and RV.  I enjoyed working with you in Parsippany as well as Florida - I'm sure you are keeping the traffic organized...   Dot and family, keep the faith!  Doug will keep his eye on you all I'm sure.

I appreciate the opportunity I had working with Doug in Fort Lauderdale.  He loved his family and always tried to help others when he could.  God bless the family and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

It's been a rough month and it's hard to write this but here goes...

Having been 'related' to Dot and Doug for the past 30 years or so has been an experience to say the least. I always envied the daring nature of you two. Moving from NJ to FL to NC is something that scares the heck out of us! We do truly appreciate the job you took on raising Jonathan (with Heather's help!) and were so looking forward to your RV stories. 
We are more affected by this loss than you could know. It's way too close too home and God took him way too soon, but we suppose that He has bigger plans for him. So, Jonathan, keep an eye out on your shoulder for another guardian angel. They're still looking after you from above.

doug was a great person. even though i didnt know him long, i always enjoyed talking to him and bowling with him. so sorry for your loss. sending hugs to the family.

I was broken up  to hear of Doug`s passing. I send my love to you Dorothy and the entire family. I know at this time it is difficult to see a time when things will be good again, but you will always have great memories of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

I didn't know Doug well at all--we had actually only met once--but I was still moved to hear of his passing. I wanted to reach out to mention, for whatever small condolence it might offer, what a memorable, bright, and genuine person he immediately struck me to be. That sort of first impression is a rare thing indeed, and I think it speaks to Doug's character, his charm, and his heart. I only got to know him through a safety training course he led with the City of Raleigh, but even in that limited context (and through a brief conversation afterward), it was clear that he cared deeply for others and was modest yet proud of his life's accomplishments--I can't begin to guess at the number of lives he touched or saved, directly or indirectly, through the course of his career. I remember him mentioning his daughters with love, and pride, and a laugh. I am glad to have known him, however briefly, and wanted to take this chance to say thank you, and to let you all know that I will carry on with me my memory of him and the words of wisdom he shared.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories of Doug bring you comfort.

I was so saddened to hear of Dougs passing.Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Though many years have passed since living a few houses away and serving on the fire department in Hopatcong with Doug I still have so many fond memories of the times spent at the firehouse and all the firehouse dinners and picnics. I was just looking at some old firehouse photos recently, one being of all of us dressed up for the Hopatcong Happy Days parade (what fun times we all shared back then) Girls know your dad will watch over you both forever. He was a great friend and fellow firefighter who taught me so much. I can speak for anyone of the guys at the firehouse back in the day when I say Doug was liked by everyone and would do anything for anyone.   Until we meet again my old friend Rest In Peace!

We loved Doug very much and will miss him terribly .  He was a great friend.

Doug was the best! He did so much for me and my family. He could build anything and was always willing to help. We grew very close during the fire department years, and was a excellent leader.For years we played santa clause taking different routes around the district. Such a tragedy.He was a special guy and one everyone should be proud to have known him.
