

Douglas “Ray” Cooke, 83, died Monday, June 13, 2022 at his Angier home surrounded by his family. Ray was born December 9, 1938 in Clayton, NC to the late Dudley and Clyde Messer Cooke. After graduating from high school, he worked as an electrician for over thirty years. Ray was an avid fisherman, captivating story-teller, hard-worker, gardener and so much more. He enjoyed adventures, most of which included a trip to the coast or to get some ice cream. He was a fierce force of nature with the kindest heart and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones and remembered by the words of wisdom he left behind.
Ray is survived by his wife, Lena Cooke; his sister, Betty Mangum; his daughter, Ranae Strickland and husband, Eric of Dunn, his step-children; Glenda Pollard and late husband, Terry of Angier, Butch Adams and wife, Brenda of Angier, Charlene Jackson of Angier, Frankie Stewart and wife, Annette of Meadow, JT Stewart and wife, Liz of Benson, Pam Jackson and husband, Donnie of Garner, Penny Lou Cullen and husband, Scott of Angier, William Stewart and wife, Pennie of Moncure, Bart Stewart and wife, Racheal of Benson; and his grandchildren, Carrington Anderson, Brenna Strickland, and Ethan Strickland. Ray also had many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he loved dearly.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 10:00am at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Clayton.
