Dixon Spence, 89 year old retired building contractor, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 2, 2015. He was the son of the late Mack and Elsie Spence, of Clayton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Spence; daughter, Sherry Sawyer; son, Timmy Spence; grandson, Scott Allen; brothers, Mack, Glen, Earl, and Tom Spence; and sister, Ruby Joyner. He is survived by his son, Andy Spence and wife, Joan, of Angier; daughter, Joy Wood and husband, Danny, of Benson; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brother, Harry Spence; and sister, Shirley Spence. Dixon served his country in the US Army during WWII. He enjoyed gardening after his retirement and loved to share his vegetables with all of his family and neighbors. He attended Benson Grove Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 4, 2015 at 2:00pm at Benson Grove Baptist Church, 6966 NC HWY 50 N, Benson, NC 27504. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
