
2020. He was 85. “Pops” as he was affectionally known, was born
September 30, 1934 in Durham, North Carolina.
He attended Durham High School and in July 1952, he enlisted in the
United States Air Force where he served as a Military Policeman until his
retirement in 1972, after 20 years of service at the rank of Staff Sargent.
After retiring from the military, he worked a short time with the United
States Postal Service and went on to work for General Electric as an
appliance repairman for over ten years.
During a deployment in England, John met the love of his life, Joyce
Maureen Connor. After a brief courtship, they were married. John and
Joyce were married over 50 years until her death in 2012.
John is preceded in death by his first born son, John, who died shortly after
birth, his parents, Gilmer and Elna Green, brothers, Malcom Green and
Gilmer Green and his beloved wife, Joyce.
John was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Clayton. He enjoyed
doing home projects, gardening and spending time with his ShihTzu, Toby.
He is survived by his son, Robert William Green of Raleigh; Steven Joseph
Green and wife Martha, of Dunn; Joseph William Green of Chattanooga,
Tennessee; a Brother, Frank Green of Pittsboro;; his Step-Grandsons, Mark
Schmitt of Norfolk, Virginia and Kevin Schmitt of Fayetteville; and h dog,
Toby.
Graveside service will be held 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 30 at
Raleigh Memorial Park with Pastor John Gibson, Presiding. Interment is
entrusted to McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton.

Thank you to all the Hospice Nurses, Social Workers and CNA’s that made
such a difference in Pops life these past months. They were kind,
compassionate and the care he received was wonderful beyond measure
and we will be forever grateful.
