Maloa Stevens Benson, 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 after a long decline in health. Surviving to cherish her memory are her sons, Wayne Benson of Forest, VA, Linwood Benson (Nancy) of Rockwall, TX; her siblings: Eloise S. Price, Dr. Sherrill Stevens, Geraldine S. Murphy, Jesse Stevens (Barbara), Rev. Brantley Stevens, Annie S. Nichols (J.W.), Diane S. Coats (Larry): sister-in-law, June C. Stevens and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends.
Maloa was the first child (of 10) of the late Jesse Almon and Dora Austin Stevens of Clayton, NC. She was also predeceased by her husband, Melza (Freck) Benson, son, Robert William Benson, daughter, Linda Kathryn Wheeler, sister, Dora Jean Stevens Hobbs and brother, Lt. Col. Wade Stevens. She graduated from Wilson’s Mills High School in 1939, was a member of First Baptist Church of Clayton, NC, and worked for many years for Stewart’s Appliance Service in Clayton, NC until she retired. She became a resident of Gabriel Manor Assisted Living in Clayton late in life. Maloa was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a beloved sister and aunt. She was sustained by her faith and was an inspiration to all who knew her.
A service to celebrate her life and to affirm her faith and hope will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 2:00pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 1:00 - 2:00 immediately prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
The family offers a special thanks to the doctors and staff at Gabriel Manor Assisted Living, Clayton, NC for the years of dedicated care provided to Maloa.
