Mercedes (Dee) A. (NanCarvis) Zimmerman, 77, of Clayton, formerly of Red Hook, NY, passed away peacefully at home with her husband at her side on Friday morning May 23, 2014. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 19, 1937 to the late James and Virginia (Barbagallo) NanCarvis. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Terrence, of Clayton, NC,; two daughters, Denise Zimmerman, of Bend, Oregon and Terri-Ann Zimmerman, of Raleigh, NC; son, James Zimmerman and wife, Helene, of Tivoli, NY; granddaughter, Jordan Zimmerman; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Gibbons. Mercedes was employed by IBM before staying home to raise her family. Once her children became older, she worked for the Red Hook Central school District in the Cafeteria. Her pride and joy was being there to raise her children, support her husband, and the birth of her granddaughter. One of her favorite memories was marching in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, twirling her baton with her high school band. A vivacious, strong willed, loving, and caring person, with a great sense of humor, an infectious smile, and laughter, she will always be remembered. She was a very loving devoted wife and mother, always in attendance at her children's events, of course being their biggest cheerleader. Friends may call at McLaurin Funeral Home, 12830 US hwy 70 Business West, Clayton, NC 27520 on Tuesday May 27 from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM.
