GARNER – Raymond Isaac Capps, age 85, passed away Friday, February 25, 2021 at Wake Medical in Raleigh, NC.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, March 4, 2021 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, NC with Reverend James Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
He was born July 18, 1935 in Wake County to the late Chester Capps and the late Stella Puckett Capps.
Ray retired from the telephone company with 40 years of service and was a member of Aversboro Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon since 1972 and was a Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, traveling, being a member of the six man football team that won the state championship for Clayton High School. He was a veteran of the US Army having served as a Spec 3 during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Rozella Smith Capps; children, Jarvis Piner and wife Barbara, Lon Piner and wife Claire, Johnny Ray Capps and Richard Capps and wife Christy; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; brothers, Joseph Capps, Jerry Capps and Sherrill Capps; and sisters, Grace Capps Hamilton, Tillie Capps Wood and Lillie Capps.
