July 27, 1943 – July 31, 2025
With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Richard William Buschhorn born on July 27, 1943, surrounded by the love of his life, Betty, and wrapped in the faith that defined his every day.
Born on July 27, 1943 to William and Adelaide Buschhorn, Richard was a man of quiet strength, deep wisdom, and unwavering faith. He served as a guiding light not only to his family but to everyone who had the blessing of knowing him. He lived out his belief in God with humility, always ready to pray with you, not just for you, earning him the loving nickname “Dad Buschhorn.”
Richard had a long and respected career as an IT Systems Architect and Developer, contributing his talents to organizations including the U.S. Army, Johnson & Johnson, Prison Fellowship Ministries, National Trust for Historic Preservation, and Novo Nordisk. His work was driven not only by technical skill but by a deep sense of purpose—serving causes and people that mattered. His career was not only about developing IT solutions, but also developing people both technically and spiritually. He was also the father of “German Bread” a social gathering on Fridays and the first US IT Employee to retire from Novo Nordisk.
He was known for his dry humor and perfectly timed straight-faced jokes, keeping family and friends laughing even in life’s toughest moments. More than that, he was a deeply devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend—a pillar of support whose presence brought comfort and peace.
He studied with the Navigators and faithfully led Bible studies and small groups. In his last years, he continued to minister to others at Pittsboro Christian Village, and lastly Kingswood Reserve. His purpose was to honor the Lord and to minister others. He greatly impacted many lives that will continue his mission.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Betty Buschhorn, sister Diane Stasiek and husband Al Stasiek, children Ken and Kristy Buschhorn, Jennifer and Jeffrey Yates, Amy and Gregory Hill, David and Stephanie Buschhorn, grandchildren, Jake, Jayden, Zack, Jonathan, Gabriella, Mackenzie, Scarlette, Mackayla, Hannah, Sadie, and Rebecca, extended family, and a wide circle of friends and brothers and sisters in faith. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the prayers he lifted, and the love he gave so freely.
A visitation for Richard will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at McLaurin Funeral Home, Clayton, NC. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 11:00 AM at McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel, Clayton, NC. An interment will occur Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Rd, Goldsboro, NC. Services will also be streamed online.
All are welcome to come, share memories, and give thanks for the remarkable life of a man who truly lived to serve others and honor his Lord. Charitable donations can be lovingly sent to Pittsboro Christian Village, 1825 East Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
While we mourn his passing, we rejoice knowing Richard is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, whom he loved and trusted throughout his life.
