

Rodney Jay Caldron was born on May 20, 1964, in Copiague, New York and lived in Wyandanch, New York until the age of 8. He spent his formative years in Plymouth, North Carolina and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1982. After high school he briefly attended Winston Salem University before enlisting in the United States Army. He served in the Army for 4 years and received training in various areas and was honorably discharged in April 1987.
Rodney was blessed with two children, Rodney Jay Caldron, Jr. age 34 and Cameron Caldron age 25. He was extremely proud of his sons and bragged about them often. Known to most as “Chill” or “Chilly C” and always dressed in black and never without his Ray Bans, Rodney was fun loving and appreciated a good joke. He listened to a wide array of music from Hip Hop to Heavy Metal always, at the highest possible volume. He loved watching sports and was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. Rodney was an extremely loyal friend and very generous whenever anyone needed anything.
On July 30, 2024, Rodney passed away due to illness. He is survived by his sons Rodney and Cameron Caldron, mother, Dolores H. Purnell, sisters, Tracy Caldron and Tobby Spruill, brother Haywood Earl Spruill, Jr. and one sister-in law, Tania Taylor. His biological father Charles Jay Caldron and stepfather Haywood Earl Spruill, Sr. as well as his older brother, Melvin Caldron proceeded him in death. Three nephews Jordan Caldron, Skye Harrell, Tazmen Spruill, and two nieces, Chanelle Smith and Rheia Spruill as well as one aunt and one uncle, a host of cousins and friends who loved him dearly. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, bravery and generosity.
The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of condolences from family, friends, extended family members, and co-workers. Your love and support have comforted us greatly during this time.
A memorial service celebrating Rodney's life will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 7:00pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home.
