

Sandy was born in Columbus, Ohio to Marie Wilson and Robert H. Carpenter Sr. on October 29, 1941. She married Marlin Albert Klinger on June 16, 1957 in McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita Kansas.
She began her work career as a dental assistant, purchasing agent for Fayetteville Technical Community College, Administrative Assistant for the Maintenance and Grounds department of Methodist University of Fayetteville, NC and Civil Service Employee of the United States Army
She was a dedicated and supportive Air Force wife of 21 years, enjoying the journey of setting up home at their next assignment.
She was very active with the Cumberland County Shrinettes which afforded her the opportunity to share her leadership skills.
She raised her faith-based family with a strong work ethic and she was there for the room mother events in school, hiking, camping and leadership skills for both the Boy and Girl Scouts
Woman of faith following God’s word, believed in the underdog, love of military, children and animals.
Avid NASCAR fan and came in second place while driving a race car that was named for her at Shawnee Speedway, Topeka, Kansas July 12, 1964.
Sandy is preceded in death by her parents Marie Wilson and Robert H. Carpenter Sr. her step-father Arthur Slover, her sister Collen Goodart, brother Robert Carpenter Jr, son-in-law Henry L. Smith Sr. and husband Marlin A. Klinger.
Left to cherish her memory is her son David A. Klinger, wife Karen of Apex, daughter Tammie K. Smith of Smithfield, sister’s Betty Houck of Tiffin, Ohio, Jacqueline Woerz, husband Gary D. Woerz of The Woodlands, Texas and Granddaughter’s Katherine A. Klinger of Raleigh, Jennifer S. Edwards, husband Jonathan of Smithfield,
Grandson Jonathan D. Klinger, fiancée Kaley Shields of Raleigh. Two great-grandsons Luke H. Edwards of Smithfield and Maverick J. Klinger of Raleigh. Many nieces and nephews

We would like to thank the staff at Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh, NC. for the compassionate care our mother received this past week and Debra with Amedisys Hospice for her support in mother’s care.
