“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
Sandy was born in Bath, NY, on September 18th, 1943, to Robert V. and Lois A. Webb. She was the oldest of 3 children and grew up in Corning, NY.
Sandy met her husband, Thomas (Tom), on Friday, the 13th of September, 1963, and they were married November 30th of the same year. She had been attending the local community college and was working as a part time receptionist at the Corning Glass Works bowling alley, where she met Tom. She would get embarrassed when Tom told people they met in an “alley.” That was over 56 years ago.
Married life began in Corning, NY, where her son Chris was born. Then, after a short period in Bradford, PA, they moved to Wilmington, NC, where their daughter Susan was born. After a job change they moved to Shelby, NC, where their son Robert joined them; although he was born in Charlotte, NC. During the 18 years they lived in Shelby, Sandy was actively involved in raising her children, earning a ministerial certificate from The University of the South, and counseling at the Crisis Pregnancy Center where she served as the Director. In her “spare” time she loved to cross-stitch, stencil, sew, paint, knit and crochet, winning many 1st place awards at the local county fair for her creations.
The next 22 years were lived in Lexington, NC, where Sandy stayed active with her youngest son, counseling at the local Crisis Pregnancy Center, teaching Sunday school, and serving in several positions of the Lexington Christian Women’s Club, including President.
In August, 1996, Sandy was diagnosed with a stage 4 glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor. After undergoing an experimental treatment through Duke University Hospital, chemotherapy, and radiation, she was able to live a normal life for the next eleven years. In 2009, as her health began to decline, Sandy and Tom moved in with their daughter in Clayton, NC.
Sandy loved the Lord, and she loved her family. She was able to meet six grandchildren who gave her much joy. Her courageous journey in life is an inspiration to us all.
Sandy’s family wishes to extend special appreciation to her brother Robert S. Webb and wife Clara for their unwavering love and support, Amelia Church family and Lexington Memorial Church family for all their support, and all the healthcare providers she has had throughout the years.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert V. and Lois A. Webb, her brother Jeffrey L. Webb, her brother Jose Tiburcio, and her beloved Aunt Mary Zinkand.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Tom Kochanowicz; children: Christopher Kochanowicz (Karen) of Spartanburg, SC; Susan Kochanowicz All (David), of Clayton, NC; Robert Kochanowicz (Neelye) of Staunton, VA; her grandchildren: Alexandra (Lexie) All and Alayna (Laney) All of Clayton, NC; Savannah Kochanowicz and Luke Kochanowicz of Spartanburg, SC; Kaitlin (Katie) Kochanowicz and Jacob Kochanowicz of Stanton, VA; and brother: Robert S. Webb.
