I have just learned of Tom's death - my heartfelt condolances go out to my dear friend Sue & all of Tom's family on the loss of an absolutely wonderful man to friends, family, & community. I met Tom & Sue just after he retired - they signed up to be mentors in the HOSTS reading program located in all 11 elementary schools in Wayne Township here in Indianapolis. They volunteered for years, until they retired in NC. These wonderful, intelligent givers supported the 3rd graders (and me!) in so many different ways. They loved, supported, & taught our students so beautifully, even driving back for a HOSTS event here that honored Tom & Sue for the special relationships they had with our students. They both have truly made a difference in the lives of many - love & prayers to you, Sue!! U were blessed with an angel!!

To Tom's family,
I worked with Tom at AT&T in Indianapolis and just wanted to share  a few thoughts.  He was always so positive, funny, smart, productive, caring and wise.  He was a great team member and just all around nice guy.  I'm sure you all knew that every day, but hearing his name again brought back many positive memories.

May he rest in peace.  May God comfort all of you in your grief.

Tom was always such a loving, supportive uncle to me and my sisters. Seeing him over the holidays was always a highlight of the season -- he made every conversation more lively, sharing his vast knowledge and his wonderful sense of humor. I have so many memories of us laughing in the basement of my grandparents' old house over bowls of popcorn. We have shared so much joy and togetherness as the Paker/Roberts/Glithero clan, and Tom will be so missed in those moments.

Tom was always so encouraging and so interested in my economic studies. In our last emails, he was urging me to think about big questions about how to help others. In everything he did, he put others first -- his family, his friends, and his community. He was a role model for how to live in this world as a good person: intentionally, generously, and joyfully, surrounded by people you love. I will miss sharing and debating ideas with him and learning from his example.

I will always remember when Tom and Sue visited me in college in Georgia, on one of their many trips. It was so wonderful to see them during a time when I often felt very far from home and from my family. I never had to doubt how proud Tom was of me or of how much he loved me. You can see that so clearly in this photo from their visit.

Tom always made sure that everyone around him knew how much they meant to him, and especially how much he loved Kristina and Mandy and Sue. I hope he knew how much he meant to all of us and how much we loved him back. I am heartbroken that we won't have more time with him on this earth, but so grateful for the moments we were able to share.

I met Tom in college almost exactly 47 years ago.  It would be hard to find a nicer, steadier, more upbeat guy.  He was a friend to all of us, as well as a mentor and role model to many underclassmen.  One of my favorite college memories of Tom was walking to church with him on Sunday--each of us dragging a freshman along with us.  We reconnected a few years ago, and I'm so glad we did!  Every exchange was upbeat and caring.  My deepest sympathies to all of Tom's family, especially Sue and Tom's girls (whom he bragged about to me, even though I had never met them--he didn't care--he was so proud!).  Our hearts are breaking with you.  What a privilege to have known such a special man!  I will miss him.

      I first met Tom several years ago through his wonderful wife Sue.  Just talking to them and being near them I could see and feel the love and care they had for each other. Their love and compassion also extended out to their community and church where they both were involved with reaching out to those in need and to share their talents.  
     To all of Tom's family, especially Sue, please accept my heartfelt condolences at the loss of this wonderful, kind and loving man.

Working with Tom at Indiana Bell was a joy. He was always upbeat and positive, and he was appreciated by everyone who had the opportunity to work with him. My condolences to his family. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

When Tom and Sue visited us in Florida three years ago, my husband Bill and I could not have imagined what a treat it would be or that such a special friendship would result. We’d never met Sue. And my only memories of my “little cousin” Tom were a brief lunch 20+ years ago when Tom and Mike visited my folks in Boca Raton….and Tom as a little boy in Hume, IL with a constant, ear-to-ear smile. (Even at five, Tom was “high on life”.) We sat for hours at our kitchen table, trading stories, laughing. We were so impressed with Tom and Sue’s extensive and longtime volunteer work, their deep devotion to Kristy and Amanda, and to each other. The next year, we got even better acquainted as privileged guests at one of the infamous GBG weekends (Glithero Brothers Get-togethers) at their home. And during the past three years, we exchanged literally hundreds of emails with Tom, comparing news and notes on life, politics, health and family. So though we were late getting to know Tom, we loved and will deeply miss that grown-up kid who never lost that ear-to-ear smile. Our hearts break for our friend Sue and the two wonderful daughters Tom never missed a chance to brag about. He never stopped counting his blessings and was a blessing to everyone who knew him. 

Tom and Sue shared this love with my family over years of birthdays, baptisms, Christmas celebrations, and graduations. He was supportive in every way imaginable and will be dearly missed. We love you Sue, Amanda, and Kristina as we loved Tom.

Our most sincere sympathy to Sue & their beautiful daughters.  We met Tom & family at St Christopher in Speedway, IN and always enjoyed seeing them.  My mom, Deloris, introduced them to Paul and I after raving about the wonderful couple she met at SVDP.  We were sorry to see them move and I think of them every time I drive down Country Club Rd. Tom has always been bigger than life, always the doer, always there.   We lived so much of life together, sometimes on parallel paths, sometimes with different goals. Always though Tom was a steady guy, yes with highs and lows, but always making his path.   Remember when he thought he would not get his first phone company job, and stood up to make his case and got it.  Tom was the one who always went far and did more.   He was proud and loving as a father, husband, and brother.    We’ll all miss you Tom, Nitro.  We’ll always love you.  

Tom is a role model for many including me. For nearly 40 years I've known and loved him for his competitiveness (at basketball and bingo - no everything!), his self-deprecating humor, his massive intellect, and his leadership ability. But what I will most remember about Tom was how he demonstrated on a daily basis his infinite capacity to love - his family, his friends, his community.  

Tom was a dear friend for almost 50 years, and I loved him like a brother.  I will always remember Tom’s wit, intelligence and big heart.  To borrow from Wicked: Because I knew Tom, I have been changed for good. My deepest condolences to the family who he adored. 

I am an old college friend of Tom.  I have such fun and lovely memories of him and I'm so glad we kept in touch, even a little, through the years.  His sense of humor, his intelligence and loyalty just set him apart from so many.  I see him in my memories so clearly right now, playing bridge on a spring day on the front lawn of Jane Hall.  He loved his girls and Sue.  I am honored to have known him.

Dear Glithero Family, I am Marianne Flood Paker's sister.   We met Tom and his wonderful Family many years ago.   Although, we haven't stayed in touch, it was evident then and evident now, how much Tom loved and cared for everyone around him.  He blessed all of you with his devotion. Sue and family, although I haven’t met Tom in person, I know him through the joy and support he gave to my friend Sue through her recent illnesses and conditions. We in her art class saw the love Tom and Sue had for each other as she painted special watercolor pictures for him.  Many loving comments were shared about Tom.

Tom was my boss, mentor and friend. I'm happy he had a very active retirement but sad that it did not last longer. Rest well my friend.

We have known Tom for about a year and wish it had been longer. We got together with Tom and Sue for dinner and playing cards. Tom was a great person. His kindness was evident in his work with Guardian and Litem. He was very well read and could speak on any subject. And he had a great sense of humor and was fun to be around! We will miss him. This  photo is the last one we took of him when he was graciously participating in our family Zoom sessions every Sunday during the pandemic. 

For 5 years it has been my pleasure to get to know Tom as a volunteer Guardian ad Litem child advocate here in District 11.  Tom’s engaging personality and his inquiring mind and passion in everything he did will truly be missed by so many!  Tom always spoke his mind and he often asked “why?” this or that happened in court regarding a case he worked on.  Always eager to learn and develop his skills, Tom was an avid reader and he always sought to become better at whatever he was doing.  Thru Tom I was also able to get to know his wonderful wife, Sue, and she too, has that same passion for life and helping others! Tom just recently shared with me how fortunate he was to have such a wonderful partner in life!  Tom told me many stories about his “girls” as he was so proud of his two successful daughters and the work they do!  Yes, Tom will be greatly missed but the impact on the lives he has touched will continue to be felt for many years to come!  

Mrs Glithero, and Daughters I am truly sorry for your loss. I met Mr Tom and he was very kind. I know this is a hard time but God will see you through. Thank you for what you have done for me and for all the kind words you say to me ( Mrs Sue).

We are heartbroken in the loss of our Uncle Tom. He is, was and always will be one of the greatest men we will ever know. Please know that our love and respect for Tom, Sue and the girls is endless. Ps...say hi to Pop for us. Have a great game of catch or hoops.

On any given morning  while sitting in the Guardian ad Litem Office, I would look up and here would come Tom.  He would be hoofing it down East Market Street in Smithfield with a  new library book under his arm but on a mission to talk to someone about an new issue or inquiry regarding a child he was Advocating for in the Courtroom.  He had probably been rolling the question over and over in his mind since his early 4 am walk and just had to reconcile the issue so the child's best interests did not slip between the cracks.  He was passionate.
He loved Sue, his wife, and would loudly and proudly tell everyone how she was his better half and he how he would do anything and everything for her.  He loved her and it shined in this eyes!
He loved books.  He was well read in every genre I can think of and would happily and knowledgeably give his opinion on any book you would mention.  If he had not read it yet, he would make a mental note and it would go on his "list".  I know the circulation desk in Smithfield will miss him!
Tom was also passionate about his daughters!  I heard many stories about them when they were growing up in  Indianapolis, their college years and what they are doing now.  He was passionate about anything they are passionate about and he was infectious!
Tom was passionate about people.  He served on several community committees, some that I am sure I do not know about but he did mention to me the Child Fatality Committee, a Food Pantry and serving at St Anne's Catholic Church.  He will be missed by many.  And I only knew him for a short 2 years!
I wish he were still here and I wish I had 1,000 more just like Tom who were this passionate about life, especially the lives of the children who need them in Johnston County.
Great job, Tom.  Thank you for being so awesome!
