Tracy Lynn Strauss, age 65, born in Casa Blanca, Morocco, July 11, 1956, lived a life full of love for her husband, Michael, children and grandchildren, orchids, cats, travel, and a daily glass of wine and left us far too soon on August 10, 2021 at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill following a brief illness.
No formal services are planned for this time.
Tracy had enjoyed but a few of her long-planned retirement years after serving the Department of Defense as a Financial Systems Accountant and Analyst for thirty years. Michael and Tracy met after a co-worker introduced them to each other. Together for thirty-four years they navigated work, family life, and ocean leagues in their many far-flung cruise adventures.
In addition to Michael, Tracy is survived by children, Daniel Smith and Audra Hughes and spouse, Eric Hughes; grandchildren, Noah Hughes, Alayna Nahikian, Gavin Hughes and McKenna Smith; brothers Mark and Steven Strauss.
Tracy balanced her hectic work life by raising and nurturing orchids, cats and children, in that order. In her retirement she invested her time and energies into her grandchildren whom she adored. Everyone who knew Tracy knew of her enthusiasm for the Denver Broncos, the Colorado Avalanche and DU Pioneers college hockey team. Tracy and Michael collaborated on creative home decoration projects and custom furnishings of their own creation. Tracy would want everyone to be encouraged that she was a cancer survivor who enjoyed many additional years with husband and family.
Tracy will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
