Ruth J. Merat

She was born on June 30, 1924 in Frenchville; a daughter of the late Wilfred J. and Pansy (Meckley) Jannot. On February 5, 1949 she married Verden P. "Bigger” Merat in Frenchville, PA at St. Mary of the Assumption Church; he passed away on May 8, 1964.

Ruth was a finger printer for the FBI during WWII and worked as a clerk at Leitzingers.

She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Frenchville, PA.

Ruth was the Past President of the Altar Rosary Society, Past President of the Women’s Auxiliary VFW #8386, Past President of the Women’s Mosquito Creek Sportsman Auxiliary, and worked at the Blood Mobile for the Red Cross.

Her hobbies include canning, gardening, embroidery, and taking car rides.

Survivors include six children: Arthur Merat of Falls Church, VA, John Merat and his wife Lorrie of Bald Hill, Mark Merat and his wife Janice Frenchville, PA, Ann Rubly and her husband Robert of Clearfield, Teresa Gill and her husband Michael of Frenchville, and Billi Jo Mills and her husband Matt of Osceola Mills; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 1 step grandchild; 2 step great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was last of her generation.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wilfred J. Jannot, Jr.; and two children: Kathleen Merat and Mary Kay Merat.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 28, 2017 at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church of Frenchville with Rev. David A. Perry Jr. as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Church Cemetery.

Friends we be received on Monday, August 28, 2017 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Frenchville, PA from 10:00 am until the hour of mass.
