He was born on November 26, 1942, in Bigler, PA, the son of the late Lawrence & Alice (Walker) Hynd.
In his early years, William loved going to school and playing with his siblings. He also loved animals, especially dogs and cats. At the age of 9, he contracted meningitis which would change his life forever. After several weeks in a coma, he emerged deaf and intellectually disabled. He lived most of his life with his parents, and later with family before moving to Mulberry Square.
William loved visiting with family and friends who stopped by for a visit. He had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. His laugh was infectious and could shake the windows. He greeted everyone with one of his famous bear hugs and a strong handshake. His limitations did not prevent him from enjoying life and showing people how much he loved them.
William is survived by sisters, Alice Jean Stone of North Jackson, OH, Christine Hamer of Millbury, MA, Katherine (Glenn) Wilkes of Webster, NY, and brother Thomas (Jackie) Hynd, Greenbackville, VA.
He is preceded in death by sisters Rachel Mary Hynd, Margaret Morris, Belle Peters and Jesse Good. And by brothers-in-law John Morris, Elwood Stone, Calvin Peters, Albert Good and Clayton Hamer.
William was a very loving uncle. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who he took great pride in. He was famous for assigning special names to each of them and those names followed everyone into adulthood.
The family would like to thank all those at Mulberry Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center who provided care for William during his final years.
A memorial service will be held at a later time.
