Alice was born on February 9, 1941 at Queens in New York. She was the daughter of Charles and Catherine Dickinson. Alice was raised with one brother, Dick . Alice was very accepting and supportive of her family. Alice married James C Bates in 1972 and where married over 40 years. Together they raised James W and spent their time traveling.
With a talent for making acquaintances easily which in turn brought her an endless stream of friends, Alice was very sociable and could blend without effort into any social group. Assertive and outgoing, Alice was easy to know and demonstrated a deep concern for others. Alice was tenderhearted and sensitive, qualities that served her well in helping to nurture her family.
For Alice, parenting was a particularly enjoyable and pleasurable part of her life. Every activity, from chores to bedtime routines, became a game in the Bates home. Alice's skill at understanding her children's feelings, her sensitivity to their needs, and her gift for gentle persuasion enabled her to find novel solutions to any problem or situation that might crop up. Alice was blessed with one: James W Bates. They were also blessed with two, Alexandra and Samantha. In her spare time she liked to spend time with her grandchildren.
