A tribute from Vikki:
It is with a deeply heavy heart that I share news with those of you who knew (and loved) Rev. Brian Berry of his peaceful passing today. He was 73 years old. He lived a selfless, humble life dedicated to studying God’s word and preaching the gospel to as many as he could reach. He lived a faith-filled life, a faith so strong, so deep, and a heart so full of love for his savior Jesus Christ that allowed him the strength to officiate our son’s Celebration of Life nearly 13 years ago.
An ordained minister for over 40 years, Brian ministered to countless souls in need, those who were lost, and those who were just eager to learn more. In recent years (until just recently), despite escalating pain and declining health, he performed Sunday services every week at local nursing homes. Brian’s services were eagerly anticipated each week and brought the residents immense joy as Brian shared the Lord’s message through scripture and music. At each service Brian played his guitar and sang songs of worship and praise, as the residents joined in by clapping their hands, tapping their feet and singing along. His services were the highlight of their week, many of them alone with no family or visitors otherwise.
You told me just recently when I asked you what you would want to be remembered for, and you said, “I want to be remembered for bringing the word of God to as many people as I could while I was here.” You did that, Brian. …you did that.
“The best is yet to come,” and for Rev. Brian Berry, it has come today. You died in the grace and friendship of God. Lord, may this diligent servant behold the light of your face and hear the deserving words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
And so, Brian, we have come full circle…I will miss you deeply. I will miss our monthly conversations. I will cherish 52 years of memories. Hug our son for me as you travel Heaven together.
