Curtis traveled extensively during his lifetime, visiting over 100 countries. He loved cruising and finding out of the way places in every country he visited. He spoke Spanish fluently and was a student of several other languages.
He worked in the airline industry for over 40 years, holding many positions including that of Airport Manager and Director. He won numerous awards for excellence over the course of his career and made a host of life long friends.
Curtis was also involved in many volunteer activities in support of his community. He was a member of the Sheriffs' Advisory Board and received a Leadership Award from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. He was also head of the Neighborhood Watch, President of the HOA, a church deacon & treasurer, and a volunteer at Suncoast Hospice.
Curtis was an avid golfer. His competitive spirit loved winning, but the most important thing was being with his friends and having a good time. Even though he had a gift for entertaining and loved having people come to his home, he was surprised and humbled by the outpouring of love and care from so many of his family and friends.
He loved walking the beach collecting seashells and just enjoying nature. He was well known for his green thumb and gardening was a passion of his. Hearing him whistle while working in his garden, you knew he was content, and every plant he touch thrived. He also had the soul of a poet and leaves behind numerous poems written over his lifetime. He was a strong & mature follower of Christ and an avid reader of the Bible, always willing to talk to anyone about his faith in God.
Curtis is survived by his wife Deborah Hairston Barrett of Clearwater, FL, two sisters, Christine Mitchell of Reading PA and June Morace of Tampa, FL, one brother, John Barrett of Cookeville, TN, and a host of nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by both family & friends.
