Curtis Eugene Gibson was born on July 27, 1951 in Sevierville, Tennessee to Virginia Wichman and Eugene Gibson. His long struggle with dementia came to an end on November 25, 2018, and was surrounded by his loving family when he was called home.
A loving husband, dedicated father, and devoted Christian, Curtis was a master electrician by trade, who raised a family along side his beloved wife of 48 years.
Curtis was an immensely compassionate man, with a twinkle in his eye, and capable of befriending anyone. Among his greatest joys was to bring a smile to someone’s face. He was a very active member of Lakeside Community Chapel, and volunteered in many of its ministries. Outside of his family and God, music was one of Curtis’s great loves, and he enjoyed using his musical talents to play guitar for Lakeside’s ABLE program, which provided support for congregants with special needs, and its youth programs. Curtis also traveled with Lakeside on various missions, including relief work across the Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and infrastructure support in Haiti.
Curtis is survived by his loving wife, Meri-jo, his three very proud and grateful children, Celeste, Jessica, and Curtiss, and five grandchildren of questionable repute, Caleb, George, Ian, Henry, and Josephine. He is also survived by two siblings, Gina and Anita.
He loved nature and music, having written and recorded multiple songs, some evoking his spirituality or the serene majesty of the smoky mountains, his hometown, and love of the Chattanooga Valley where he often vacationed with his family.
A Funeral Service will be 12pm Friday Nov. 30th at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Rd. Clearwater, Florida 33759. Visitation will be 10-12 prior at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sylvan abbey Memorial Park. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or Suncoast Hospice.
