Daniel Merle Beard, 72, passed away peacefully at home on March 3, 2026. Born on July 10, 1953, Daniel was the beloved son of Merle P. Beard and Josephine L. Edwards, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became. Dan was preceded in death by his parents.
Dan was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Susan J. Beard. Married for 48 years, their marriage was a beautiful testimony of commitment, partnership, and unwavering devotion. Together they built not only a family, but a legacy of faith, hard work, and creativity.
He was a proud and loving father to Elizabeth Young (Robert), Jessica Holcomb (George), Megan Cutlip (Cory), and Daniel Beard (Tammy). His greatest joy was his family, and he cherished every moment spent with his seven grandchildren—Robbie, Ryan, Savanna, Roy, Emma, Elliette, and Everleigh—who brought immeasurable light and laughter to his life.
Dan is also survived by his loving siblings: Rebecca McLaughlin, Susan Fulford (Michael), and Joseph Beard. He treasured his family deeply and valued the lifelong bond they shared.
Dan began his college studies at the Ringling School of Art and later completed his Bachelor’s degree in Commercial Art at Mercyhurst College. His talent and eye for design led him to work in Design and Production in Orlando and Virginia, where he built a respected career.
In partnership with his wife and parents, Dan helped establish a Pinch A Penny franchise, which they faithfully owned and operated for 37 years. Through this business, Dan built lasting relationships within the community, serving customers with integrity, dedication, and warmth.
A man of deep faith, Dan was a devoted member of The Cross Church in Mount Dora, Florida. His faith guided his life, strengthened his family, and was evident in the kindness, humility, and quiet strength he showed to everyone around him.
Daniel was known for his playful spirit and love of humor. He loved to joke around and was always ready with a lighthearted prank, bringing laughter and joy to those around him. His sense of humor was one of the many ways he showed love to his family and friends.
Dan courageously fought a hard 5½-year battle with Glioblastoma. Through every stage of his illness, he demonstrated remarkable strength, perseverance, and faith. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate team at Moffitt Cancer Center and to Dr. Grogan for the exceptional care, dedication, and support shown to Dan throughout his journey.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dan’s heart belonged to the Arts. Sculpting, drawing, and painting were not simply hobbies—they were expressions of his soul. His creativity reflected his thoughtful nature and deep appreciation for beauty.
Dan will be remembered for his steady presence, gentle spirit, artistic gifts, playful humor, unwavering faith, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the business he helped build, the church family he cherished, and the art he created.
He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed, but the family finds comfort knowing that Dan is now at peace in the presence of his Savior.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Moffitt Cancer Center in honor of Dan.
