Born on June 30, 1938, in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, Donald was the beloved son of the late Mary Agnes and Odina Martel. He was raised on a dairy farm in Deerfield, New Hampshire, where he developed the strong work ethic and resilience that defined his life.
His family relocated in the early 1990's from Deerfield, New Hampshire, to Brooksville, Florida.
In 1956, Donald married the love of his life, Sandra Ross, and soon after answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. He proudly served aboard the USS Albert T. Harris. Following his military service, Donald built a long and honorable career as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. He also gave back to his community as a dedicated volunteer with the local fire department.
Donald found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid woodworker, a passionate traveler who cherished time spent exploring in his RV, and a lover of music festivals. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially salmon fishing aboard the Salmon Hunter. Above all, he treasured time with his family and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sandra Martel; his son, Donald Martel Jr.; his granddaughter, Heather Martel; his brother, Arnold Martel; and his sister, Ola Plante.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Brenda Feaster; his son, Dale Martel; his grandson, Seth (Brittany) Feaster; his great-grandchildren, Chloe Fisher, Cameron Hall, and Samira Feaster; his sister, Olia Roman Miller; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A gathering to honor Donald’s life will be held on May 1, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. until a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759.
Guests are invited to come prepared to share stories and memories, dressed in Donald’s favorite attire—a plaid shirt and jeans—in tribute to the life he lived so authentically.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Suncoast Hospice Foundation.
Donald’s legacy of strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those he loved will live on in all who knew him.
