Dear Sara:

We never met, but I considered myself a good friend of Doug's during and immediately following high school. We lost track of one another after he moved to Chicago for a spell and then to Florida. I've been trying to find him since and it breaks my heart to know that will never happen. 

My sincerest sympathies to you for your loss. PLEASE say hello to his mom, dad, and sister when you see them next. Tell them that I miss them as well....and that I enjoyed seeing all of the pictures of him, his family, and his friends.

I'm am so glad I was able to see you and Doug at Rolex this year.Our prayers are with you and your family and if we don't see you at Parade,we are so glad we were able to be with you at precious event. We remember fondly the drinks at the Sebring Sheraton and the special shirt you and Doug got for Ron.

To Sara and Family and close Friends,

     As my husband and I prepare to leave Florida to go back home to Ohio, I cannot leave without a few departing comments.

     First of all, February 1, 2013 will be remembered as one of the saddest days of all of our lives – the day we had to say goodbye to our Doug, a precious relative and good friend.    As heartbreaking as his passing was, Sara, you and your special family made his last year in this world so much more bearable.    I personally had the opportunity to witness how your family took time out of their busy lives to provide personal care for Doug.   He so needed round the clock help!   And, most importantly, your family helped with such a cheerful, fun-loving attitude--always finding a way to help with dignity, humor and kindness.   And also some of his very close friends who came to help!   What an amazing testimony to the very special person he was to have others take time out of their lives to be there for him.  

      Also, a comment on how selfless and persevering Doug was.   No matter how bad he felt, he always asked how any of us we were doing.    He hated being a burden to you or anyone, apologizing constantly for his inability to do things for himself.   His attitude was never defeated – always saying he was doing better than yesterday.   He tried so very hard to beat his cancer.   He was so inspirational!

       Again, on behalf of the Monaco family, I want to personally thank you for your dedicated and loving care of Doug.    And also, thank your family and the wonderful friends who were there supporting him through his last year.   You are all tops in my book!

My Dearest Sara
When I was in my senior year in high school I lost a very close friend on my wrestling team to an auto accident.  In the next two years to follow I lost two other very close friends in freak accidents.  My mother could tell I was very disturbed and upset.  My mother said to me “Shannon, God sometimes works in very strange and mysterious ways.  He will sometimes take the things you cherish and love the most as a test of your faith.”  If this was a test of my faith it was one of the cruelest things God could have ever done.
  
I know Doug moved down here to pursue a career as a professional golfer. His love for golf, auto racing and football was incredible. His biggest love was college football.  His team was Ohio State.  This love for his team is what originally brought us together in a common bond for I too have been a lifetime Ohio State fan.  There never has been a bigger fan than Doug.  IF Ohio State had a hall of fame for fans Doug would be in it.  He would hold all the records and those records would never be broken.  I know every Saturday when I'm watching those games God has given Doug the golden ticket.  He'll be sitting in the best seat in the house along side all of us forever enjoying the game.  I know when my time comes God will let me in, but with reservations. He won't give me a golden ticket but merely a pass.  But, I know God also let some of those scalpers slip through.  I don't know what currency they use in heaven but I do know this…..I'll find one of those scalpers and spend all my heavenly currency so that once again I can sit next to my friend and share those games together.

If I had the courage to get up in front of everyone and say something about Doug this is what I would have said.  But all this aside Doug's greatest love was you, Sara.  Then family and friends.   I believe his love of sports was kind of a vessel to bring those he loved and cared for closer together.  I know for some time to come many tears will flow from your eyes in sorrow and sadness.  I can only hope and pray when this happens you think of all the happiness and smiles Doug brought to so many faces.  And those tears may turn to a waterfall of happiness and joy, remembering the fantastic things Doug brought out in all of us.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I can honestly say that dealing with Doug in the business world for the last five years was an absolute pleasure. He was one of the kindest, most thoughtful customers that I've ever dealt with in my banking career.  He always had a smile on his face when he came to the bank and the world could certainly use more people like him.  My heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

My thoughts are with the family at this time of sorrow.

We met Doug and Sara via the Porsche Club when we were on the Parade Committee and we became fast friends.  Doug was so organized and covered every base in work and in fun.  We traveled to F-1 with them in Montreal--definitely one of our best memories.  We will miss Doug's calming presence--he was a great person and friend, and Rob will really miss his beer drinking buddy.  Love to you Sara.

Doug was always there when you needed anything, anytime. I am so sad for his passing. He was a fantastic ,funny, lovable person. Yes there was OSU and Jack Nicklaus, too. Doug was the best at golf, we played many Saturday mornings,early!! He could hit the golf ball farther using my right handed clubs than I could, he was left handed. He spent alot of time teaching me golf, and was patient, even though I was very poor at it. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family and friends.

Like everyone, my heart is breaking at the loss of our sweet and loving, Doug. The pictures you've shared made me smile through my tears. I only wish that I could ease the pain that Sara, Aunt Betty, Uncle John, Leanne and all my cousins and family are feeling right now. I pray that our Lord covers each of you with His peace and comforts your hearts until your reunion with Doug in His presence.

My thoughts and prayers are with Doug's family and friends.  He will be missed by so many people.  When I think of Doug, two things come to my mind.  One, he had the most organized desk I have ever seen and two, he had a passion for fast cars.  Hopefully he has a super turbo charged car to race around up in heaven.

I will always remember Doug and Sara at the races. Those back of the tent dinners and a little sip now and then when things were slow. They were always there to help out and even open their home when you needed it. I am so glad that I got to see them at the last Petit in Atlanta.

Sara, words can not express the sadness that I am feeling for you now. Doug was such a great guy. Mr Ohio as I always called him. He has left a void in the large world of friends that he had. I always enjoyed coming to your home and watching the Ohio State games. My favorite memory of Doug was when Ohio won the Championship and he did Script Ohio dance and dotted the I. Now God will get to see him do that in Heaven. Go Bucs! Go Doug! you will be missed.
