Born in Ames, Iowa, on March 12, 1952, Emily was the beloved daughter of the late Gertrude and Norlyn Musser. She grew up with a deep appreciation for family and the natural world—values that shaped the woman she would become. Emily graduated from Sycamore High School in Montgomery, Ohio, and began her college journey at the University of Cincinnati. Eventually relocating to Florida with her family, Emily completed her degree in education at the University of South Florida, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life dedicated to teaching and nurturing others.
Emily was a gifted educator whose compassion, patience, and gentle nature touched the lives of countless students over the years. She believed deeply in the power of example to inspire change and growth, both in the classroom and in life.
One of Emily’s great joys was enjoying nature. Whether kayaking calm waters, tending to her butterfly garden, or simply soaking in the peace of the outdoors, she felt most herself when surrounded by nature and its wildlife. Her love for nature could only be surpassed by her love for family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, siblings, and beloved dogs, Rocky, Copper, and late Bentley. Above all, her greatest joy was being a mother.
Emily’s legacy of strength, kindness, and curiosity lives on in those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her children, Ryan (Heather) Chase and Allison (Alex) Kidman; her siblings, N. Dale (Diane) Musser Jr., Ann Dalter, Frank (Jacklyn) Musser, and William (Karen) Musser; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.
A private celebration of Emily’s life will be held by her family on August 23, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Emily’s name to Susan G. Komen, Suncoast Animal League, & Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center, supporting causes close to her heart.
