

Gaston attended The Methodist School Irene Tolan in Matanzas and graduated with a degree in Political Science.
He was an active revolutionary and true patriot seeking Political and Social reform in Cuba.
He worked for many years at what was then known as El Aqueducto in Matanzas, the utilities company. He worked in the water management division.
He was General Secretary for the Ministry of Labor in Matanzas until 1961 until his forced exile to the United States due to conflicting ideology regarding the Political atmosphere in Cuba.
The Political climate at the time did not coincide with his and many others ideology of a better Cuba. It was not what he had fought so diligently and fearlessly to implement.
He married Elsa Penabade in 1959 and brought his beloved daughter Leticia into a readymade family. One year later they had a second daughter Maria.
In April 1961 he escaped Cuba with six other men. The journey took place in a 14 foot boat called “El Pitirre” Arriving in Key Marathon USA.
He was joined by His wife and daughters in Miami in May of 1961, they move to Clearwater Florida in November of 1962.
He was employed by Morton Plant Hospital with the help of altruist Charles Emerson who later became a lifelong friend.
He remained employed by Morton plant Hospital for 37 years as a journeyman AC mechanic.
He epitomized entrepreneurial pro activism and owned several small businesses throughout the years.
He was part owner of Irma’s Optical in West Tampa
An active member of the Republican Party and past president of the Latin Chamber of Commerce.
A free Mason for over fifty years and a member Universal Lodge Grand Lodge F&A.M., served as Grand Master twice.
He was an extraordinary human being and possessed a great sense of humor and a strong work ethic. He cherished his faith, altruism, social and political reform. He extended sincerity and strength through action and lent many in the community a helping hand.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Elsa, two daughters Leticia Lewis and Maria Thibodeau Mason.
Their spouses Howard Lewis and James Mason, Seven grandchildren Heather Overton, Joshua Overton, Marleina Overton, Jessica Thibodeau, Evan Thibodeau, Alexandra Lewis and Jordan Lewis. Three great grand children Kira and Kai Overton and Pumehana Lyonswolf.
A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00pm Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 S. Belcher Road, Clearwater, Florida with a Funeral Service to be held at 1:00pm.
In Lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Suncoast Hospice.
