1922-2018
June 23*, 1922, Jorge (George) Campos and his twin sister were born into a family of eight children. They were raised on the family sugarcane farm that bordered coconut palm tree lined beachfront in Islote, Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
As a youngster, he moved to town and worked on a milk delivery truck. When he was 17 years old he moved to New York City. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) and was assigned to a camp in upstate New York. Then during WW II, he served in the US Army in the European Theater.
After the war, he moved to Long Island, NY. He worked as a machinist of precision instruments until he retired and moved to Florida in the 1980's.
Freedom Inn (now Brookdale Senior Living) has been home since he became a widower. Thanks to the wonderful staff ,especially caregiver Bonnie, and friendly residents it has been a good home.
George was a friendly, easy going person who loved children and they loved him. And he loved dogs. He worked hard on the job and at home. His hobbies were gardening, landscaping, and woodworking. He enjoyed swimming and taking long walks. He was also a good cook, especially Puerto Rican cuisine.
