On February 15, 2017, we will be celebrating the life of Jacqueline Doris Crossley Campbell at the First United Methodist Church of Tarpon Springs located at 501 East Tarpon Avenue, Tarpon Springs, Florida. The viewing is at 10 am and the service at 11 am. Jackie was born in Trenton, New Jersey where her father’s family resided long before the American Revolution. Her mother’s family were immigrants from Germany and settled in Trenton in about 1900. Her parents were Walter Sherman Crossley and Emma Louise Homeier Crossley. Jackie had one sister, Patricia June Crossley Johnson. Jackie lived in and attended school in Morrisville, Pennsylvania across the Delaware River from Trenton. In the third grade she met James Campbell, “Beans;” they were high school sweethearts and after Jim’s service in the Navy during WWII, they were married by the Justice of the Peace in Andover, New Jersey. They established a home at 26 Cadwallader Court in Yardley, Pennsylvania and soon Diane Louise was born (1952). Twins, James and William (Jimmy & Billy) followed in 1954. In 1961, Susan Jane was born and the family was complete. Jackie was a housewife for some years, raising her children and enjoying her family and neighbors. In 1962, Jackie and Jim moved to Holden, Massachusetts in search of a better professional opportunity and simply because Jim loved New England. Once her youngest child was in school, Jackie became a bookkeeper at Reed Roll Thread and Die in Holden . For a while she rode her scooter back and forth to work, refusing to wear a helmet which would ruin her hairstyle. In 1979, Jackie and Jim moved to Florida having had enough of the cold New England winters. They built a home in Tarpon Springs and hosted many family picnics for their visiting children, grandchildren and other relatives. Jackie found a secretarial position with a defense company in Florida. She had Top Secret clearance and worked with many of the engineers who were employed in the United States Space Program. Retiring in the 80’s Jackie and Jim traveled; many trips were with former WWII sailors from the San Saba (a US Navy ship that Jim served on). Jim passed away in 2003. Jackie remained in their home spending much time with daughters Diane and Susan and their families and her cousin Evelyn Harrison. The Campbell family welcomed grandchildren; Jason, Lindsey, Chrystal, Jimmy, Lisa, Alex and twins, Sarah and Samantha as the years passed. Alex was particularly close to Grandma loving to hear her stories of her youth. As Jackie aged she required the assistance of a long term care facility spent almost 4 years at Cross Terrace Rehabilitation in Dunedin, Florida. She passed away peacefully and painlessly with her family in attendance on February 9, 2017, just a few days before her 90th birthday.
