On Independence Day, a true American patriot, James Thomas Davis, Sr., age 77, peacefully passed away, reminding us all of the strength, sacrifice, and love he represented throughout his life. Born on January 24, 1948, in Middletown, Ohio, Jim was the devoted son of the late Thomas and Frances Davis.
A man of honor and integrity, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army after being drafted during the Vietnam War. He displayed extraordinary courage on the battlefield, earning both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his bravery. Before his military service, Jim attended the University of Florida on a football scholarship and later returned home to Clearwater, where he graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor’s degree in English literature.
More than a soldier and scholar, Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared a deep and abiding love with his soulmate, Deborah Ann Davis, with whom he built a beautiful life. Together, they raised a large, loving family rooted in faith, loyalty, and compassion.
Jim led with quiet strength and unwavering love. His children remember him as a gentle protector, a wise teacher, and a constant source of strength. His legacy lives on through his 9 children, Travis, Erica, Alex, Vanessa, Jessica, James Jr. Deborah, Benjamin, Adam; 19 grandchildren, Sonia, Sasha, Madeline, Damien, Dominic, Alexis, Zoe, Xander, Ava, Jackson, Davis, Daniel, Adam Jr., Ellie, James Walter, Willow, Elijah, James Thomas III, and Ethan; and 1 great-grandchild, Rowan Quinn, all of whom carry forward the values he instilled in them.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deborah, and we take comfort in knowing they are now reunited in eternal peace.
A private graveside service honoring the life and legacy of James will be held at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759.
James Thomas Davis, Sr. will forever be remembered as a loving family man, a proud American, and a hero to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
