Jane Marie Katherine Ertel, born March 14th, 1929, has left this earthly world but her spirit rings on through those she has touched. Whether it was her family, church, choir—where she shared her beautiful soprano voice for many decades--, and consistent, professional employment, Jane had a warmth that was unique to her own that was felt by many.
Jane lived in New York State with her first husband Edgar Hayn and three children: Diana, John, and Stephanie. She was very proud of her accomplishments in her profession and community involvement in the Order of Eastern Star as she rose to Matron after six years of dedication in 1969 via the Irmah Chapter in Akron, NY. She will be honored for her fifty years plus commitment with an honorary floral service today as she wears her fifty-year pin. As a professional, Jane dedicated her secretarial skills to assist integral businesses for decades as a very active member in the Professional Secretary International (PSI). She eventually retired after working at her son’s hydraulics business, Atlas Hydraulics.
Jane and her beloved second husband, Harold Broker, moved from Western New York to Florida in 1979 to join her son John and her youngest, Stephanie, soon followed the same year. Diana, the oldest of Jane’s children, joined the family in 2006. For many years, holidays, celebrations, trials and tribulations, Jane enjoyed her family so much. Her family grew as her son John’s wife Millie added to the warmth and love Jane loved to be a part of with the blessings of more children and their children.
Family is so important to Jane. Whether it was sending a card to her grandchildren: Tim, Jim, Cheryl, and Jerilyn for every holiday in her elegant penmanship and deeply-felt sentiments, or celebrating Easter Sunday or Christmas get togethers, Jane had a way of passing along wisdom, whim, and love with a jingling peal of laughter that warmed all those around her. She adored her great- grandchildren Zacha ry and Lauren in WNY and always required updates and pictures to be a part of their lives.
In addition to Jane’s spreading of familial love and joy: animals, especially her kitty cats. Much like her human family, animals loved her right back! Jane just had a way.
We so appreciate those who could be here to celebrate the beautiful life Jane lived and appreciate the thoughts, well wishes, as you all know Jane is here with us and always will be through her legacy of love.
