Joan R MATSON, age 88, of Seminole, Florida, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021, after a 15 year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Joan was born July 18, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Margaret and Paul Tuetken. Joan is survived by her son Jeffrey, two daughters, Denise, and Susan (Bill), granddaughter Jannelle (Kyle), and great grandson Kayden Best.
Joan was a long time resident of Seminole, FL, after relocating there from her native Wisconsin in 1975. She graduated from the Saint Petersburg College with an RN degree after moving to Florida. She accomplished this degree while working and caring for her family.
Joan worked for many years as an RN at Lake Seminole Hospital. When that hospital closed, she moved to Largo Medical and continued her RN career. She loved being a nurse and was known as a very caring, nurturing, loving medical professional. She was beloved by her patients and co-workers alike. After retiring at age 70, Joan continued her caring ways by volunteering at Suncoast Hospice.
She was very active in her church, Suncoast Cathedral, where she worked in the nursery, took blood pressures for the Silver Saints and was active in women's events.
Joan was a great cook and shared that passion with her daughter, Denise. She loved to shop, antique, read, craft and travel. Cruising was her favorite form of travel and Alaska her favorite destination on the cruise ship.
Joan lived by the Bible verse Philippians 4:13 -"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". Joan lived for her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. One of
the best days of her life was when her Granddaughter, Jannelle was born. Joan was frequently described as "sweet" and would do anything to help another. She will be sorely missed.
A visitation, service and reception for Joan will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 2853 SUNSET POINT RD, CLEARWATER, FL 33759.
