Joseph Peter Marques

Joseph P. "Joe" Marques, Sr. age 91 passed away at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida on Wednesday, April 6, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Theresa A. (Gauthier) Marques. Born on January 4, 1925 in Taunton, MA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Belizinda (Augusta) Marques. A member of "the Greatest Generation", he was an extremely proud Veteran who served aboard US Navy ships during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. Joe always had a song in his heart, on his lips, and a dance in his step. Writing poetry and watching movies with the love of his life were his favorite past times. He was a devoted husband and father. Joe retired as an employee of the Attleboro, MA School Department where he worked for over 20 years. He leaves his three children, Joseph Marques Jr and his wife Anne of FL; Deborah Altman and her husband Peter of ME; and Kimberly Smihula and her companion Ernie Greco of FL. Joe also leaves five grandchildren Jason Marques and wife Jennifer, Aaron Altman and wife Kristine, Marlaina Altman, Brent Smihula and wife Morgan, and Brandon Smihula. He leaves behind seven great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Alice Pires, Mary Rhodes, and Antonio Marques. Joe was a communicant of St Jerome Catholic Church of Largo, FL. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Mass and burial will be private.
