Josephine Mary Nobile of Clearwater, FL and formerly of Glenwood Landing, Long Island, NY, passed away at home with her loving children, hospice health care providers, and dedicated caregivers on November 2nd, 2021, at the age of 94.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, on September 19, 1927, Josephine was the daughter of the late Joseph and Columbia Pendolino. She was the youngest of five children and the last surviving member of her family.
Josephine lived in Fort Hamilton, where she attended and graduated from Fort Hamilton High School. She worked as a secretary and stenographer for a firm on John Street in lower Manhattan. She delighted in socializing with her friends during her on and off work hours.
In 1950, Josephine married Joseph Nobile.
After getting married, they moved out to Glen Cove, Long Island, NY, together with his brother, Thomas, and his wife, Genevieve, and their partner to launch at that time, the largest supermarket on Long Island. Josephine was a devoted wife, homemaker, and loving mother to her children: Joseph, Marianne, Steven, and Lynn.
Later on, Josephine helped her husband in the family catering business and Nobile’s restaurant that they owned with Thomas and Genevieve Nobile. She enjoyed working side by side with Genevieve. They were like sisters.
For over 35 years, the Nobiles’ and sister-in-law, Josephine and brother-in-law, Angelo Arculeo, and family, made it a yearly tradition to celebrate the holidays together. Summers were spent at her parent’s country home in Marboro Township in upstate NY with the Pendolino clan, including her mom and dad, four brothers and a sister, nieces, and nephews, all of which she had a special connection to, and they to her.
Joseph and Josephine were semi-retired to Dunedin, Florida, in 1983 to enjoy the warm weather. She worked at Macy’s as a sales representative for nine years before retiring.
Josephine enjoyed spending her time outdoors and gardening. She loved cooking meals for everyone from her treasured box of passed-down recipes.
Joseph and Josephine had an enduring, loving 71-year marriage together.
Surviving are her children, Joseph Nobile of Westfield, NJ, Marianne Sharp of Clearwater, FL, Steven Nobile of Naples, FL, and Lynn Nobile of Palm Harbor, FL. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Joseph, Courtney, Bridget, Celestina, Richard, Christopher, Laura, Kristen, Casey, Daniel, Michael, Monique, Josephine, and her great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Olivia, Hugh, Boyd, Tyler, Kylie, Chase, Addison, Nicholas, Emma, Grace, Hailey, and Zoey.
