Joyce B Carothers

Born on February 17th, 1952, in the Bronx, New York, Joyce was the beloved daughter of the late Patricia and Rudolph Behrens. In 1973, she and her devoted husband, Wayne, made their home in Florida, where they built a life rooted in love, family, and community.

Joyce dedicated 25 years of service to Verizon, where she worked as a clerk before retiring. She embraced life’s simple joys, quilting with care, riding her electric bike, and taking long walks with her cherished dog, Rambo. She also generously gave her time volunteering with the dogs at the Pinellas County Animal Shelter, reflecting her deep compassion for animals.

Above all, Joyce’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt and grandmother who treasured every moment spent caring for and celebrating those she loved.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her sister, Pamela Behrens Gandossy.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Wayne Carothers; her children, Erin Carothers and Christopher Carothers; her cherished grandchildren, Nolan Carothers and Gianna “Gigi” Carothers; her siblings, Rudolph “Rudy” Behrens Jr., Jeanne Duchemin, Thomas (Tammy) Behrens, Robert (Susan) Behrens, and Mary Ellen Behrens, her nieces Heidi Carothers Beaman, Carey Gause and nephew Randy Carothers; her beloved dog, Rambo; and many extended family members and dear friends.

A memorial gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11th, 2026, at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759.
