Juan and his parents, Juan and Lourdes Falla, immigrated from Cuba in 1962 to escape communist Cuba. Juan grew up in New Jersey. He attended St. Joseph’s of the Palisades High School and Fordham University in the Bronx, NY. He graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science.
From a very young age he had a calling to become a doctor. He attended medical school at State University of NY at Stony Brook on Long Island. He completed his residency at Mountainside Hospital in NJ, where he was chief resident. In 1988, he moved his family to Clearwater, FL and worked at Cigna until 1996. He joined what is now Baycare Health System in 1996 and worked until March 2023 when he was diagnosed with ALS. His disease prevented him from continuing his life’s passion as a physician. He received many accolades throughout his medical career, including being voted best doctor in Tampa Bay numerous times.
He also felt a strong need to give back to the community. He volunteered at La Clinica Guadalupana (a hispanic outreach clinic) and the Clearwater Free Clinic when it was in its infancy. He participated in mission trips to Nicaragua to support our sister parish in Jinotega. He coached baseball and softball for both his children and grandchildren at Countryside Little League. Playing softball was a source of great joy for him.
Juan was preceded in death by his father, Juan Falla.
He is survived by his mother Lourdes (Leon) Falla, his wife of 44 years Josephine (aka Fifi) Falla, his daughter Laura Schneider (Zachary Schneider), his son Eric Falla, and his grandchildren Evan and Olivia Schneider.
He will be greatly missed by all those whose life he has touched.
