Len was born at home in Lindenhurst, New York, the third and youngest child of Philip E. and Elizabeth L. (Moffatt) Storz. At the age of two the family moved to Rockville Centre, New York where he spent his formative years. Len attended St. Agnes School and was very active in church and school activities. As a young man he was a volunteer member of the Rockville Centre Fire Department and later worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Rockville Centre.
Immediately following high school graduation Len enlisted in the U.S. Army at the closing stages of World War II. He served in the European Theater and was discharged in 1947. However, he remained in the U.S. Army Reserves for an additional 40 years eventually rising to the rank of Sergeant Major. He has always supported veteran groups and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A great thrill for him was a trip to Washington, DC to visit the World War II Memorial as part of an Honor Flight in 2016.
After discharge from active duty Len obtained a degree in business administration from Pace University using the GI Bill. He met the love of his life, Ruth Urich, and married her on June 2, 1951. After a few years in the business world in New York, he decided upon a career change to teach elementary school. Len and Ruth moved to Massapequa Park, New York and Len took a job with the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District where he remained for over twenty-five years. Len volunteered with many St. Rose of Lima Church organizations and continued his Army Reserve duties throughout those years.
Retirement brought Len and Ruth to Safety Harbor, Florida where Len was very active in the Briar Creek community. He volunteered at Mease Countryside Hospital and was an usher at Espiritu Santo Church for thirty years. He later moved to St. Mark Village where he was once again a very active member of that community.
Len is predeceased by his parents, sister Delores, and brother Ronald, as well as his beloved wife, Ruth. Survivors include sons John (Del Baker-Robertson), Kenneth (Irene), grandchildren, Matthew (Brielle) and Nicole (Andrew Lobasso). His great-grandson, Hunter Aaron Storz was born on his 94th birthday, the day before his passing.
