Mary Ann Young, 92, formerly of St. Petersburg, residing in Palm Harbor at St. Mark Village, entered the glory that is Heaven on June 28th 2015. She was born in Roseville, Kentucky on February 10th 1923 and married her much beloved high school sweetheart, George E. Young, on August 16th, 1943 in Glasgow Kentucky while George was on leave from the Army Air Corp during WWII. After the war, they lived in Louisville Kentucky were she worked as an executive secretary at Fawcett-Dearing Publishing Company until becoming a mother in 1950. Moving to St. Petersburg in early 1952, she continued as a stay at home Mom for many years, volunteering for many school and church functions. Eventually George and Mary bought a local business, Clark Car Rental. Over the next 15 years they grew that business to a substancial fleet of cars and created a used car lot. Mary established and maintained the bookkeeping for both businesses. There were other, more important life roles than being a great secretary and business partner. She loved to study God’s word and to worship Him. She was a woman with a servants heart and a lover of Jesus who was not afraid to proclaim her faith. She was consistent in both her faith walk and in her love for her family as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to laugh at her prankster husband and enjoy life, whatever it brought, every day. During her 54 years in St. Petersburg she served in many leadership roles in Norwood Baptist, Maximo Heights Baptist and Fifth Avenue Baptist churches, including teaching children in Sunbeams and Vacation Bible Schools. But her greatest love for many years was leading Homebound Ministries at both Maximo Heights and then Fifth Avenue Baptist, ministering to those who had lost the physical ability to participate in congregational worship. She taught her family well, both by her words, and more importantly her actions, helping leave an incredible legacy that will continue to unfold in her family for years to come! Mary was predeceased by her husband of over 70 years, George E. Young. She is survived by her brother, James T. Pace (Mary Margaret) of Glasgow Ky.; son Billy (Nancy) of Clearwater; grandson Jason (Jada) and great grandchildren, Ainsley, Kyle and Quinn Young of Chattanooga Tn; granddaughter Jennifer (Jason) and great grandchildren Evan and Ella Smith of Spring Hill. A private service will be held at the family’s convienience.
