Matthew Benjamin Greene passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 51. A lifelong resident of Tampa Bay, Matt was known for the radiant smile that brightened every room and the generous, gentle spirit he shared so freely with others.
He found joy in both the mountains and the sea—traveling, hiking, snowmobiling, learning to ski, and just as happily spending days on the beach. He loved boating, fishing, building sandcastles with his children, and being surrounded by family, friends, and his beloved dog, Daisy.
Matt had an insatiable curiosity about the world. Whether exploring the vastness of outer space, the mysteries of the oceans, or the intricate workings of nature and technology, he approached life as both a student and a teacher. He graduated from Brandon High School in 1992 and went on to earn degrees in Microbiology and Physics from the University of South Florida.
Above all, Matt was a devoted husband, partner, and best friend to Elaine; a loving father, teacher, and hero to Rhys and Esme; and a cherished son to Harry and Vera-Dean. He was also a treasured son in law, brother in law, uncle, cousin, colleague, and friend.
Though he no longer walks beside us, Matt’s spirit remains ever-present. His warmth, kindness, intelligence, and humility continue to shine through the lives he touched. His soul is held in light and love.
A celebration of his life will be held at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park on January 24th at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at Crown & Bull in Dunedin.
