Pat was born in St. Petersburg and lived her entire life in Pinellas County graduating from St. Petersburg High School and St. Petersburg Jr. College. She worked in the banking field and retired from Barnett Bank (now Bank of America). With her husband of 59 years D.E. “Gene” Harris, Sr. who died in 2009, she enjoyed doing service work in the community. For many years they were active with the Seminole Volunteer Fire Department, Pat as a member of the auxiliary. Pat supported Gene’s work in Kiwanis, sometimes as a member herself and other times just working by his side on many projects, including Every Child a Swimmer and helping found and administer the Kiwanis Horses and Handicapped Program in Seminole. Besides their work with Kiwanis they also volunteered their time delivering prescription drugs for Hospice and driving the Care Van for Morton Plant Hospital, work that one year earned them jointly the Volunteer of the Year Award for Morton Plant Hospital. As a couple they also received a “Point of Light” Award for their work with Toys for Tots, helping to provide toys for foster children in Pinellas County.
Pat and Gene, also, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and the world. For several years the two of them would take their motor home on extended trips throughout the country, including to Alaska. They, also, visited Hawaii, many countries in Europe, Asia, Egypt and the Holy Land. Pat was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter Rev. Kathleen “Kathi” Trautwein (Bill) and a son D.E. “Don” Harris, Jr. (Susan), eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
