Patricia “Pat” Lacy, 96, died Monday, March 3rd in Clearwater, Florida. Pat was born on March 26th, 1928 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Leslie Hatfield Palmer and Marguerite Newsome. Pat was active in her community from a young age, participating on the girls’ basketball team and she was proud to be named Head Majorette of her high school color guard. She was fondly nicknamed the “hello girl” for her friendly demeanor and habit of greeting everyone she met, and she was voted Homecoming Queen. She and her husband, Bill, moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1953, where they raised their sons and resided for the rest of their lives.
Pat and Bill were founding members of the Skycrest United Methodist Church and remained active in their beloved church community. Pat especially loved Sundays: singing along to her favorite hymns, teaching at Sunday School, the Women’s Circle and hearing the Pastor’s messages always brought her great joy. She was a member of the Eastern Star, a mother advisor to The Rainbow Girls, volunteered at numerous food pantries, and enjoyed bowling, square dancing, and attending sporting events, especially watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s games.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Lacy, her sisters Mary Katherine Rose, Betty Ann Backus, Natalie Jean Garretson, and her brother Leslie “Footsie” Hatfield Palmer. She is survived by her sons Mark Lacy (Lori) and William “Chip” Lacy III (Anadele), grandchildren Jason Lacy (Amy), Jeffrey Lacy (Heidi), Ryan Lacy, and Lauren Lacy, and great grandchildren Carson Lacy, Cole Lacy, and Caleb “Tripp” Lacy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home. A Service will be held at Skycrest United Methodist Church on Sunday, March 16th. A viewing will be held from 2pm-3pm with a Service beginning at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to please consider making a donation to Skycrest United Methodist Church in her name.
