Born in West Bradford Township, PA, on August 16, 1933, he was the eldest son of the late Thomas and Viola (Hedrick) Fellenbaum. He was married 47 years on Nov. 18, 2017, to Marie (Shartle) Fellenbaum.
Ray was a graduate of Coatesville Area High School. In the early 1960s, he discovered the joy of flying, and it soon became his passion. He learned to fly at New Holland (PA) Airport where he started what was to become his life's work as a flight instructor, airplane mechanic and certified inspector, and ultimately as a fixed base operator. He was affiliated with airports in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Florida, and Mississippi over a career that spanned 40 years. In addition, he served with the Civil Air Patrol in Florida and Mississippi, worked the flight line at the annual EAA fly-in in Oshkosh, WI, and volunteered at the annual Sun 'n Fun Fly-In in Lakeland, FL.
He was a member of Sylvan Abbey United Methodist Church in Clearwater, FL. He enjoyed helping with projects around the church, and he was also an avid gardener, working with a local gardening group at Heritage Village and growing pineapples in his greenhouse. When he wasn't volunteering somewhere around town, you could find him tinkering in his shop or sitting on the porch of the shop talking to and feeding the birds.
Surviving in addition to his wife are six children, Tom(Stephanie Wilds) Fellenbaum of Old Fort, NC, Deb (Mark) Hiester of Millersburg, PA, Bob (Linda) Fellenbaum of Lancaster, PA, Wendy Harlan of Fairbanks, AK, Muriel (David) De Vore of Clearwater, FL, John (Debbi) Fellenbaum of Maryville, TN; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, David (Karen) Fellenbaum of Honeybrook, PA.
