

Dr. Richard Kent Spears, 73, of Largo died Sunday, August 15, 2010. Born in Brush, CO, Kent was a life-long scholar and engineer, earning degrees from Colorado School of Mines, Denver University, and a PhD from University of Florida. He worked for Honeywell, General Electric, and was founder and co-owner of Florida Forensic Engineering. In addition to his professional endeavors, Kent was an active Rotarian and named Member of the Year in 2005 of the Rotary Club of Largo. He was also a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church since 1964, where he supported mission work and the Stephen Ministry.
Beloved husband of 53 years to Evelyn, devoted father to sons Mike (Rorrie) of Seminole, Steve (Darlene) of Cleveland, TN, Larry (Kim) of Clearwater and daughters Lori (Rob) Bailey of Edinboro, PA and Amy (Steve) Motyl of Coatesville, PA; dear brother of Lani (Doug) Ruch of Port Charlotte, Patty (Jim) King of Loveland, CO; and adoring grandfather to twenty grandchildren; Justin (Anna), Abigail (Omar), Richard, Chase, Alyssa, Jillian, Matthew, Hannah, Michael, Joshua, Taylor, Bethany, Jared, Rachel, Kendrick, Jenavieve, Juliet, Skylar, Felicity, and Liam; great-granddaughter; Imogen. He was preceded in death by his parents; Lawrence and Elgin Spears; sister; Barbara Davis. Kent will be remembered with great love and fondness by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Moss-Feaster Funeral Home at 693 Belcher Road on Thursday, August 19, from 6:00-8:00 PM, and at St. Paul United Methodist Church of Largo Friday, August 20 from 10:00-11:00 AM, with funeral services immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church for a scholarship fund in his honor.
